Testimonials for Special Needs Horses

I want to share with you my experience with Chaffhaye in 2008. That is the first year that I raised an entire foal crop on Chaffhaye as opposed to baled hay. Prior to 2008 I had combined alfalfa and grass hays plus grain, micro-nutrient, and Ca/P supplements in an attempt to achieve the correct nutrient balance for growing foals. In 2008 I used a mare/foal feed for 50% of the diet with Chaffhaye Alfalfa, and no other supplementation. The M/F feed I used is made by Elk Grove Milling and is formulated to be fed with an alfalfa ration to create an appropriate Ca/P ratio for growing foals. It has a protein content of 14% which creates an ideal protein level when combined with Chaffhaye Alfalfa.

Many of my foals are warm bloods and will grow to be very large at maturity. With large breeds there are often issues with uneven or too-rapid growth rates, causing physitis, which can lead to OCD lesions.

Last year is the first year I did not have a single episode of physitis in my foals. I have kept up with the research on physitis and related growth problems with large breeds. Where the experts used to solely blame improper Ca/P ratios and excessive protein levels, they now believe that excessive sugar levels are the biggest culprit. My feeling is that the known, consistent protein level and the low sugar level of Chaffhaye was a major influence in the elimination in structural growth problems in my 2008 foal crop.

I have been using Chaffhaye for the past 6 months. My horses are doing very well. One very nice side use is when I mix the supplements and/or wormer into the Chaffhaye - the horses clean up everything. I had been mixing pellets with water for several very old horses with teeth problems - they are much easier to care for when I can feed Chaffhaye.

I no longer worry about colic, dry coughing, hay blowing away to the neighbors or down my shirt, fires at the barn, moldy hay, sticks or dead animals in my hay. My husbands gelding is looking and feeling better than he has in a couple years without having to feed several supplemental grain products. My miniature horses and goats no longer have those ugly hay bellies and no wasted hay. Best of all, I can handle the 50 lb bales myself.

Since I have started my horses on Chaffhaye, they seem to have more energy, and have stopped coughing due to wind and dust. They do not seem to be as hungry or demanding of their food at feed time. They are calmer and generally seem to feel better, including my 18 year old romping and playing in the middle of the night with my 6 year old mare. I am sold on this type of feed. The wet moist feed is desirable for me too as I am not breathing in the dust and mold given off from dry alfalfa. Chaffhaye is easier for me to store and handle as it is in bags and takes much less room. It also stays moist even after the bag is opened for a couple of
days. It is cost effective too. It seems to not to take as much to feed due to the complete nutrients, that is (otherwise) lost in dry alfalfa. An added benefit is fewer poops to have to pick up. Thanks Chaffhaye!

Chaffhaye has cured my pony’s respiratory problem. Very simply, I feed Chaffhaye and the pony doesn't have the cough.

Here is Sarah today. She has been on Chaffhaye, 100% for over 6 months. Still has a bit of winter fuzzies but her coat is shining. She is off her over $510.00 per year in insulin resistance supplements and she is thriving!

We have been feeding Chaffhaye Grass haylage for 6 months now to our herd of 10 horses, and are very pleased with the results. Prior to this, we had been feeding primarily good quality Timothy hay and Bermuda hay, and even though we'd been giving the horses moderate exercise, several of them had developed Insulin Resistance, with high insulin levels. After two months of feeding Chaffhaye, their insulin levels have reduced significantly. They also have lost their hay bellies and are looking much trimmer. We have one foundered horse that we had been working for 2 years to get her insulin scores down, trying numerous approaches: tightening her diet, soaking her hay, feeding balanced hay pellets (guaranteed to be less than 10% NSC) - all to no avail. After two months on Chaffhaye, her insulin scores are now within the normal range, and her feet have been improving, too. This has been truly a Godsend for us. Another benefit of feeding our horses Chaffhaye is that we've been able to cut our costs by reducing the amount of supplements given, confident that the horses are getting more nutrition with the fresh haylage than previously with the dry hay. Thank you for providing such a great product. Our vet is so impressed with our results that he's been spreading the word to his clients

My miniature horse stallion, Keiran, and Welsh pony gelding, Frodo, the 'miniature thoroughbred', have bloomed since starting them on this great feed. Keiran, a two year old registered (AMHR) stallion I’ve owned since he was three months old, was fine until he turned one, then all of a sudden he began to colic, getting high fevers, and choking on a regular basis (about once a month). Every time meant an expensive vet trip and I knew it had to end. I tried every single different feed and supplement recommended by friends but none helped. After a terrible choking incident which involved sending a tube down Keiran’s throat four times to finally clear it, we began preparing ourselves for Keiran’s imminent euthanasia; scar tissue in his throat was building up to a dangerous level. Soon he wouldn’t be able to eat without choking there’d be so little room in his throat. Then I joined a local trail riding club and met my new good friends Michael and Barbara Alford. Mike and Barbara’s horses, an Arab gelding named Buddy, a Missouri Fox Trotter named Rusty, and Bull the Appaloosa all were on Chaffhaye and their weight, coat condition, and energy level was amazing! I asked what supplements they used and they said none, justified Chaffhaye! I thought, wow! So I asked more questions and decided to try a bag. My little guys just loved it, dug right in the first night. Within the month I could see my “hard-keepers” pot-bellies moving upwards and filling out their bony sides, top lines, and hips, their coats and manes/tails becoming shiny and even their hooves improved! You can tell in the pictures how white their feet were before. The best news is, Keiran hasn’t coliced or choked since! He loves the taste and I love how soft and nutritious Chaffhaye is for him! He’s now ready for his show career and eventually breeding! I recommend Chaffhaye to everyone. Thank you so much!

I have been feeding my daughters warm-blood Chaffhaye hoping to help get him back on track. He recently was diagnosed with Equine ProtozoalMyeloenaphalitis. We treated him for the EPM and now he is being rehabilitated with the use of Hydro Therapy and is being fed Chaffhaye. He is expected to make a full recovery and will be back in the show ring.

Feeding our horse Chaffhaye was the best choice we could have made. He ate every bit during treatment and I am convinced he is gaining muscle back as a direct result of Chaffhaye. The product seems to have kept him calm and believe it or not he has had a shiny coat through the whole ordeal. I wish we would have been feeding bagged alfalfa all along because I fear the feces from the rodents defecating on the hay in the barn was the reason we went through this. Bagged forage just makes sense. I don't have to worry about dust, mold or Blister beetles! I think both my daughter’s horse and Chaffhaye are true winners!

I thought I would give you the latest update about how our two horses are doing on Chaffhaye (started the 2nd week of November).  Our thoroughbred mare has improved greatly!  Before she was quite listless, and now she has a "spirited" personality at the age of 26. The way she moves as she prances around in the horse yard, waiting to fly out of the gate to run to her stall and find her dinner.  She absolutely LOVES Chaffhaye!  She has put on some weight and spins with the "snorting" of pride!  Both horses are really doing great on this and again I am so THANKFUL that I had been told about your product.  Believe me, both my husband and I have been telling all our horse owner friends (and others that we see in feed stores) how terrific Chaffhaye really is!

The results for my horses after one month are amazing! Here is just a sample of the improvements :

1.) Coat color, much improved quality and richness

2.) Weight gain without big bellies, very sleek and fit  even hard keepers /metabolic issues gain with out cresty necks,

3.) Performance: moving better, gaits freeing up (attribute this to reduction of inflamation in joints). Even two horses in rehab (swim programs)  gaining ground fast; workouts intense need to eat enough to build weight and muscle without inflamation worries.

Our horses prefer chaffhaye to pasture, even follow the feed truck around to get their share of chaffhaye. I feed 50% grass and 50% alfalfa chaffhaye top dress of vitamins and minerals. Chaffhaye is very easy to balance diets due to consistent nutrition profile. We are saving money not only on feed bills, but less supplements are needed and no processed grains at all.

I wanted to update you on the progress of my two senior retired police
horses JD and Jett. I am also sending you before pictures of both horses. We
are about three weeks in, and I have seen some remarkable results:)

JD is 30 years old and for the last two months has had constant wet
diarrhea. His teeth are very bad and he cannot get enough roughage to help
him. He had always been the alpha horse of the herd, until about a year ago.
He seemed to slow down, looked depressed and moved to the bottom of the
pecking order. His ribs began to show and he lost muscle definition.

Three weeks ago we put him on Chaffhaye alfalfa. He was introduced to the
product slowly, but even with the small amounts, his diarrhea stopped the
first day! Day 6, day 10 and day 14 he had one diarrhea, then back to
normal. It has been three weeks now, no diarrhea the last week:). The
biggest and best change of all is that he started acting like he felt
better! On day 4 he took the herd back over. I also noticed that the straps
on his winter blanket were tighter!
